SubRosaSoft.com on Wednesday introduced CopyCatX v3.0, a new version of their drive duplication software for Mac OS X. CopyCatX costs $79 to download or $89 for the CD version — users of CopyCatX 1.0 and higher can upgrade for free.
CopyCatX enables you to create a copy of a hard drive, whether it’s your boot volume, iPod or other disk. Cross platform device copy lets you clone Mac, Windows, TiVo and Linux drives.
New to this release is the ability to work around media faults on damaged disks — enabling CopyCatX to recover data from scratched CDs and physically damaged hard disk drives.
CopyCatX features better performance — the software now uses sector copying and skips all of the blank space on a drive.
Also new to this release is a backup function that doesn’t require the destination drive to be as big as the original, since the backup now is measured only by used space.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.3 or later.
