Notebook case maker Targus Inc. on Thursday announced two new RemoteTunes wireless remote control products designed to work with Apple’s iPod. The new devices use Radio Frequency (RF) signals to communicate. Targus has also announced an adapter that enables newer iPods to work with older accessories.
The new RemoteTunes for iPod with Dock Connector is a $59.99 wireless remote for iPod and iPod nano. It’s coming in March and uses the iPod’s 30-pin dock connector to communicate. Because it’s RF-based, it doesn’t need a line of sight to communicate — it can work through walls and other obstructions. The remote controls volume, fast forward/reverse, advance/previous track, play, pause, shuffle and repeat. To conserve battery life, it goes into “sleep” mode after two minutes.
The RemoteTunes TX for iPod nano is especially designed for the iPod nano, and also incorporates an FM transmitter so you can hear your iPod’s music on a nearby radio. Also coming in March, the RemoteTunes TX for iPod nano will cost $79.99.
Targus has also announced the 9-Pin to 30-Pin Adapter, which allows newer Dock Connector-equipped iPods to work with accessories that used the 9-pin remote interface found on older iPods. Targus said the new interface, which will cost $19.99 when it’s released in March, is compatible with the iPod, iPod nano, iPod mini, fourth-generation iPod and iPod photo.
Targus’ Web site had not been updated with information about the new accessories as Playlist posted this article.
