Brother International Corp. on Thursday rolled out their MFC-820cw, a Mac- and PC-compatible multi-function center that features a color LCD and built in wireless networking capability. The $250 device begins shipping in February.
The inkjet-based MFC-820cw features color printing, copying and scanning and standalone color fax support. A flip-up 2.5-inch LCD display lets you preview images, navigate menus and more. Built-in wireless networking supports 802.11g and 802.11b; a wired Ethernet interface and USB 2.0 are also included. The device also touts a 10-page automatic document feeder to scan or fax multi-page documents.
The device’s print speed is 20 pages per minute black, 15 pages per minute color. Its front-load paper capacity is up to 100 sheets. It can copy at up to 1200 x 600 dots per inch (DPI) and can scans at 600 x 2400 DPI. Color printing is 6000 x 1200 DPI.
The printer’s PhotoCapture Center is compatible with media cards from digital cameras including Memory Stick and Memory Stick Pro, CompactFlash, xD-Picture Card Conventional and Type M, SmartMedia, Secure Digital and MultiMediaCard.
The color LCD can be used to preview and select photos to print, identify multiple quantities, view help files with color line drawings and preview received faxes prior to printing.
The MFC-820cw also allows scans to be sent to any computer on the network and faxes them as well; PC fax receive capability is Windows-only, however. Mac system requirements call for Mac OS 9.1 – 9.2 or Mac OS X v10.2.4 or higher.
Brother’s Web site had not been updated with information about the new device as Macworld posted this article.
