Music software maker, Native Instruments has outlined plans to make its applications native for the recently released Intel Macs. The developer said that its products would be updated to Universal Binaries within the 2006 calendar year.
Native Instruments’ flagship products like Guitar Rig, Reaktor and Traktor DJ Studio are first on the company’s list and will be Intel native in the second quarter. The updates will come in the form of either a dedicated Intel Mac update that will be made available for a small fee, or as part of a major product update for all platforms, the company said.
While Native Instruments works to make its applications native on Intel Macs, the company was very clear on using current PowerPC versions of its software on the new Intel hardware.
“Native Instruments does not recommend, or offer technical support for, using its products within the ‘Rosetta’ environment on Intel-based Macintosh computers,” the company said in a statement. “Although NI software might generally run within the emulation layer, the reduced performance makes it unsuitable for use in a professional audio production environment.”
Native Instruments said they would continue to support PowerPC-based Macintosh computers with new product releases and updates for now, but did not specify for how long.
