Mac users that wish they could play like Jimi Hendrix now have the chance to at least look the part. Gibson’s Custom Shop unveiled the Jimi Hendrix Psychedelic Flying V, the first in a new “Inspired By” series of guitars the company will roll out.
While anything the legendary guitarist did would be hard to emulate, Gibson said they went to great lengths to faithfully reproduce the guitar Hendrix played.
“The mythical Jimi Hendrix Psychedelic Flying V purchased in 1967 and used on tour in Europe during 1967 and 1968 with its swirling, psychedelic designs, highlights the spirit of the times and showcases Jimi’s unique artistic expression,” said Gibson in a statement. “Originally painted by Hendrix with what appears to be nail polish, the Custom Shop has used materials which reproduce the same sense of depth and texture.”
Jimi’s sister Janie Hendrix will be at the NAMM music show for the launch of the guitar.
Peter Frampton, John Sykes and Kiefer Sutherland models are among the other offerings Gibson plans to release.
