Aspyr Media on Thursday offered details about the system requirements for its forthcoming Macintosh conversion of
Quake 4, a first-person shooter currently in development and expected for release in March.
According to Aspyr, Quake 4 will require Mac OS X v10.3.9 or later, G4, G5 or Intel-based Mac running at 1.67GHz or faster, 512MB RAM, 3GB hard disk space, ATI Radeon 9600 or Nvidia GeForce 6600 or better 3D graphics with at least 64MB VRAM, DVD drive, and TCP/IP-based Internet or LAN connection for online play, which will be cross-platform.
The game is based on the same engine Id Software used in Doom 3. And as the information above implies, Quake 4 will run natively on Intel-based Macs.
Quake 4 is the successor to Quake II, in which you assume the role of Matthew Kane, member of the Rhino Squad, sent to destroy the vile Strogg, an alien race bent on destroying humanity.
While Quake 3 Arena emphasized multiplayer action alone, Quake 4 continues the story told in Quake II, while also offering online play modeled after the “speed, style and feel” of that found in Quake 3 Arena. It’s rated M for Mature by the ESRB.
