Destineer’s MacSoft on Friday announced the release of an update to its popular first person shooter Unreal Tournament 2004 that provides a Universal Binary, which runs natively on Macs equipped with Intel CPUs.
The patch was developed by Epic Games programmer Ryan Gordon, who handled Unreal Tournament 2004’s Mac conversion. The update also brings Unreal Tournament 2004 current to its 3369.2 patch. The update is available for download from Macgamefiles.com as a BitTorrent download — it measures 199MB.
MacSoft general manager Al Schilling said in a statement that the company’s time demo comparisons show that Unreal Tournament 2004 runs twice as fast on Intel-based iMacs as it did on iMacs equipped with G5 processors.
“Anyone running UT04 on an Intel-based iMac needs this update. Anyone with an Intel iMac, who does not own UT04, needs to go buy it now,” said Schilling.
