Orbicule Inc. on Tuesday released Undercover v1.5, an updated version of its theft recovery application for Mac OS X. The software helps users find and recover their Macs if they’re stolen. A free update for Undercover users, Undercover 1.5 costs $29.99 for a single user license.
Undercover works with a server — each system registered with Undercover has a unique ID and checks with the server periodically. If it’s stolen, the system transmits its current Internet location, which can then be used to locate the system physically.
The new 1.5 release adds support for iSight cameras, and will take pictures of the thief who’s using the stolen Mac. It also takes screenshots. Undercover can also simulate a hardware failure.
The update works with all internal and external iSight models. It also improves reliability and security.
Undercover is offered as a Universal Binary, and runs natively on Intel- and PowerPC-based Macs.
