Axis Communications on Wednesday introduced the 207W Network Camera, a wireless version of its network camera used for indoor surveillance and remote monitoring for businesses, retailers and homeowners. The suggested retail price is $299.
The 207W uses IEEE 802.11g wireless networking and features support for both MPEG-4 compression and Motion JPEG streaming. The device supports WPA and WPA-2 encryption protocols. It also comes with an Ethernet interface if you’d prefer to keep it wired. It also incorporates a microphone.
A built-in Web server enables you to view what the camera sees without having to set it up using a computer first. It’s Mac and PC-compatible, and comes with plug-ins to support Mozilla, Firefox, Safari and other Web browsers. The 207W also features video motion detection.
The 207W is QuickTime-compatible, and works with some PDAs and cell phones as well. It also features Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) and Apple Bonjour (formerly Rendezvous) support.
Axis also makes available an Application Programming Interface (API) for developers or others who want to integrate 207W control into their software.
