Apple releases Backup 3.1 for .Mac users

Apple on Wednesday released Backup 3.1, a new version of its backup software for users of its .Mac service. The update is available through the Software Update system preference.

Backup 3.1 delivers added support for some backup destinations and addresses file restoration and other issues, according to Apple, which recommends that all Backup 3.0 users update to the new version.

Significant changes in this release include:

Improved support for iDisk, local hard drives, and some network destinations (Mac OS X Tiger only)

New iWeb QuickPick and updated iLife plan

Addresses issues with restoring files

Backup 3.1 requires a G3 or better (including Intel-based Macs), Mac OS X v10.3.9 or Mac OS X v10.4.2 or later.
