Running With Scissors’ first-person shooter Postal 2 is now available as a Universal Binary to run natively on Intel-based Macs, according to a new post from developer Ryan Gordon.
Postal 2 puts you in the role of an out of work game developer who’s having a very bad week. Faced with a series of mundane tasks like going to the bank, visiting the mall or being checked out at the doctor’s office, you have a choice — you can either delicately and meekly go about your business, or you can go on a vicious killing rampage.
The game has been widely reviled — even banned in some countries — for its ribald, irreverent sense of humor and its lampooning of everything from anti-video game violence groups to racial minorities. But it’s also rich with tongue-in-cheek satire and pop culture references. (Former child star Gary Coleman even makes an appearance.)
Postal 2 uses the same technology underpinnings that power the Unreal Tournament series. Late last week MacSoft announced that Unreal Tournament 2004 was available as a Universal Binary, so Postal 2’s update follows suit.
Gordon also tinkered a bit under Postal 2’s hood while he was adding Universal Binary support. The Postal 2’s 1409.2 update fixes a number of other issues, including stencil buffer support (to fix non-reflecting mirrors), some memory corruption crashes, updated OpenAL (the game’s audio library) and more.
Ryan Gordon’s posting lists known mirrors for the Mac-specific 1409.2 update.
