TiVo on Tuesday updated its TiVo Desktop application for users of Mac OS X v10.4 “Tiger” with the release of TiVo Desktop for Mac v1.9.2. The update is available for download from the TiVo Web site.
The Mac version of the TiVo Desktop software enables users of a networked TiVo Series2 Digital Video Recorder (DVR) to share digital photos and music from their Mac to their TiVo box, for display or playback on their home entertainment system.
The Mac version of the TiVo Desktop software lacks a key feature present in current version of the Windows application — the ability to transfer recorded content from the TiVo box to the computer, or to a portable media device capable of playing video. This new Macintosh release does not change that — it is a compatibility release for Tiger users that also “enhances performance and stability,” according to the release notes included with the installer.
System requirements including a networked TiVo Series2 DVR, Mac OS X v10.3.9 or later, Java v1.4.1 or later and iTunes ‘05 or later.
TiVo notes that TiVo Desktop does not support Intel-based Macs.
