Sonos on Wednesday announced the release of a Universal Binary version of its Sonos Desktop Controller software. The software helps a Mac integrate into the Sonos Digital Music System.
The Sonos Digital Music System enables a Mac or a PC to stream digital music to any speakers in your house. You use the ZoneController to navigate your music library and playlists — it’s a wireless handheld device with a color LCD panel and touchwheel. The company sells standalone devices called ZonePlayers, which feature their own wireless mesh networking capabilities, and can come equipped with an amplifier and speakers, as well. Sonos also sells a lower cost version that lets you use your existing home entertainment system amplifier and speakers.
The Sonos Desktop Controller software already let a PowerPC-based Mac act as the library for the Sonos Digital Music System. Now the Universal Binary version of the software enables users who have bought an Intel-based Mac to do the same.
