NewTech Infosystems (NTI) on Monday announced that it’s shipping Dragon FliX, a $39.99 utility that enables Mac users to burn unencrypted DVDs using a Mac equipped with a SuperDrive or external DVD burner.
Dragon FliX includes compression technology that enables you to take the content of an 8.5GB dual-layer movie and burn it to a 4.7GB single-layer DVD. The compression preserves audio and video quality and playback compatibility, according to the company.
Dragon FliX also lets users extract the main movie or all features, so the DVD copy will start playing back the movie as soon as it’s inserted, rather than making you navigate menus. The software can also burn multiple copies.
Most commercial DVDs available in stores are encrypted or otherwise copy-protected. Like most other commercial DVD duplication and backup software, Dragon FliX does not circumvent that protection.
Dragon FliX requires Mac OS X v10.2.8 or later.
