Spiderweb Software has announced the release of its Avernum Trilogy CD, a collection of three role playing adventure games on a single disc, for $45. The CD comprises three previously released games.
The Avernum trilogy tells the story of a subterranean nation that serves as a gigantic prison for its inhabitants. You help the Avernites as you banish monsters, go on quests and help their struggle to return to the surface.
The Avernum games are very much “old-school” style adventures, featuring isometrically-displayed (three-quarters view) graphics and a simple interface. The games feature rich, engaging stories that take days and weeks to play through, and they also feature very modest system requirements — running natively in Mac OS X but also running on Macs as far back as System 8.1.
Spiderweb has similarly collected the first three games in its Geneforge series as well, together in a trilogy disc that sells for $55. The Geneforge games put you in the role of a Shaper, a member of a sect that mystically uses the ability to make and mold life forms to do their bidding. The Geneforge games feature open-ended storylines in which you can be a servant of the people, fight against them, and create hordes of mutant monsters to serve your whims.
Demo versions of the games are available for download.
