Still have an old PowerBook G3 you’re trying to get just one more year out of before you replace? Newer Technology Inc. and Other World Computing (OWC) are continuing to roll out new replacement batteries for PowerBook laptops — this time turning their attention to the PowerBook G3 era, with new 81 Watt-Hour batteries that cost $169.95.
The batteries are designed to replace the stock units that came with “Lombard” and “Pismo”-era PowerBook G3 systems, and feature 56 percent more run time capacity than Apple factory batteries.
“Lombard” and “Pismo”-era PowerBook G3s can be distinguished from the earlier “Wall Street” models by their use of “bronze” colored translucent keyboards. Pismos also were the first PowerBook G3 models to feature built-in FireWire.
What’s more, those older systems could accommodate two batteries, as they featured optical drives that could be removed — so you can double your run time, if you want.
Customers can also opt for a 78 Watt-Hour model for $159.95.
