Along with the announcement of the iPod Hi-Fi, Apple recently revealed a set of cases for today’s screen-bearing iPods—the Apple Leather Case for iPod and the Apple Leather Case for iPod nano. The cases offer what Apple describes as luxurious protection in hand-crafted Italian leather, the Apple logo, and a price tag of $99.
Google has failed me in my search for the MSRP on a crafty Italian cow, but my guess is that despite their Continental roots, these noble bovines couldn’t fetch a whole lot more than the 1,200 bucks you or I last dropped on an all-American cud chewer.
I’ll grant you that this is the only case you can buy today that sports the Apple logo—and for some, that may justify the price. But I can think of better ways to enhance my iPod for that same buck-under-a-C-note. For example:
• Four RadTech Sleevz cases
• Waterfield Designs’ iPod Gear Pouch, Small iPod Gear Pouch, and iPod Video Case.
• Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 2.0 speakers
• Podfreq FM Transmitter + Dock
• Two Griffin Technologies’ iTrip for iPod nano
• Future Sonics Ears EM3 earbuds
• Beyerdynamic DT 231 headphones
• A donation to H.E.A.R., a non-profit hearing information source for musicians and music lovers.
