One shortcoming of Apple’s fifth generation video-capable iPod is its relatively short battery runtime if you’re watching video. Peripheral maker Belkin has addressed this problem with the TunePower for iPod video, an external battery pack for the video iPod. The $79.99 device provides up to six additional hours of video playtime, according to Belkin.
Like Belkin’s existing TunePower peripheral, the TunePower for iPod video — model F8Z088 — clips on to the back of the video iPod and connects through the iPod’s dock connector. Two sleeves are included to fit 30GB and 60GB models.
Unlike the previously released TunePower, which uses AA batteries, the TunePower for iPod features a rechargeable battery pack. It comes with an AC adapter that allows you to simultaneously charge the device and play. A low-level power indicator tells you when the charge is running out.
Playback time depends on the iPod firmware in use, according to Belkin. Belkin plans to ship the TunePower for iPod video in late March.
Belkin’s Web site was not updated with information about the TunePower for iPod video as Playlist posted this article.
