Blackmagic Design on Tuesday announced 2K resolution support for its Multibridge Extreme bi-directional video converter. Multibridge Extreme is a PCI-Express (PCIe)-based converter for digital video professionals; it cost $2,595.
The Multibridge Extreme is an independent converter that connects video sources to your Mac using a 10Gbps connection and a four-lane PCI Express card. The rack-mountable device includes analog and digital audio conversion; component RGB/YUV and composite NTSC/PAL; 2 channels in and out of balanced audio on XLR connectors, 8 channels of AES/EBU digital audio; DVD-D monitoring an unbalanced stereo audio output.
The capability comes with the 5.5 release of the software that drives the Multibridge Extreme. Also included with this release — a free update for Multibridge Extreme users — is 2K real time preview for compositing and paint applications like After Effects 7, Combustion, Shake and Photoshop.
The ability to view true 2K resolution at 23.98 and 24 frames per second (FPS) enables video editors, broadcast paint and special effects professionals to view video mapped pixel per pixel on high-res displays like Apple 30-inch Cinema HD Displays and Dell 30-inch DVI-D LCD displays using DVI-D.
