Altec Lansing announced its inMotion iM9 speaker system will be released this month for $199.95. Altec Lansing bills the iM9 as “the SUV” of its line of portable speakers because of its rugged design.
First unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in January 2006, the iM9 features dual 2-3/4-inch drivers and one-inch tweeters. It has a retractable dock that works with all dock connector-equipped iPods.
The iM9 can work portably with four C-cell batteries and also includes an AC adapter. An auxiliary input lets you connect it to other devices equipped with a headphone jack, such as portable CD or DVD players or other MP3 players.
The iM9 ships with a “deluxe backpack” that lets you tote the system. The iM9 measures 11 x 3 x 7.8 inches and weighs 4 pounds.
