ArKaos and Numark have teamed up to create a new tool for visual performance artists and DJs called the NuVJ. A video mixer for DJs, NuVJ is a combination hardware/software interface that’s Mac and PC-compatible. A price was not announced.
The NuVJ was designed to enable DJs to incorporiate images and video clips into their performances the same way they mix music. The NuVJ provides DJs with a control surface to trigger image display and video clip playback; tadd effects to them, mix them using a DJ-style crossfader and tweak them. There’s also an automatic mode that lets the NuVJ run by itself.
The NuVJ can synchronize to audio in or using an internal Beats Per Minute (BPM) generator. The system comes equipped with a library of small movies, pictures and graphic sets you can use in your gigs, too.
The device has two banks of nine sets of trigger pads for video, along with two wheels to manage scratch, effect and speed control. What’s more, it’s MIDI-compliant, so it can be used as a controller for other devices.
The NuVJ can internally generate patters and backgrounds, real-time effects and crossover patterns. It leverages the computer’s own graphics card to manage effects, which allow it to support higher resolutions and greater levels of detail and more complex effects than hardware-based systems can alone, said the companies.
