Sonos on Monday announced the ZonePlayer 80 Bundle, a $999 kit that enables you to set up a multi-room digital music system. It includes two ZonePlayer 80 models and a Sonos Controller.
The Sonos Digital Music System works with software on a Mac or PC to serve up digital music files to hardware devices called ZonePlayers. The ZonePlayer 80 works in conjunction with amplified audio devices like home entertainment systems or stereos; the ZonePlayer 100 features its own built-in amp and can work directly with speakers. Both systems work through either a wired network or wireless “mesh network” and can provide wire-free music anywhere in range of your household network. Control of music playback and playlists is handled through the Sonos Controller, a wireless remote control that features its own built-in LCD screen.
The ZP80s included with the new bundle feature digital optical and coaxial and analog audio outputs. They feature auto-sensing line-in connectors that can digital encode line-in sources, making them compatible with iPods, CD players, satellite radios and any other analog source.
