REAL Software on Monday announced the release of REALbasic 2006 Release 2. The new version, free for registered REALbasic 2006 users, includes more than 150 improvements, according to the developers. It’s available for download from the REAL Software Web site. The Standard Edition costs $99.95; the Professional Edition costs $399.95.
REALbasic is a cross-platform development environment for Mac OS X, Windows and Linux. It’s suitable for rapid application development (RAD) and includes tools for drag-and-drop interface design. REAL Software has emphasized cross-compatibility with Microsoft’s Visual Basic environment in recent releases; tools included with the software let programmers convert Visual Basic projects to Mac OS X, Windows and Linux.
New to this release are improvements to the development environment’s code editor, window editor, project editor, the compiler and built applications. And new in this release is an updated version of Lingua, REALbasic 2006’s technology localizing applications.
New features in REALbasic 2006 Release 2 include an update to the code editor to hide events that contain no code and additional mouse cursors, including invisible, show and hide cursor commands.
