Online photo sharing service Phanfare announced Monday its expansion into video hosting. Now users can upload photos or video to their Phanfare-hosted Web site.
Phanfare lets you create Web-based photo albums featuring images up to 700 x 700 pixels each. Using an application that runs locally on your computer, you create a Web site of your own featuring your photos, complete with captions and descriptions. You can preview the site and upload it when you’re ready.
Now the service has added support for videos. Videos automatically are converted to Macromedia Flash 8 format so they can be viewed by Mac or PC users, and the service works with a variety of user camera formats.
Phanfare lets users upload clips that run up to five minutes in length and are as large as 1GB.
Phanfare is a subscription-based service for users who want to host video or photo albums (it doesn’t cost anything to use). The service costs $6.95 per month or $54.95 per year; a Lifetime Membership is also available for $299.95.
