Shrapnel Games has announced that the Macintosh conversion of Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space is in late beta. Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space is a strategy game set in outer space.
The sequel to Strange Adventures in Infinite Space, Weird Worlds is a sci-fi-themed game in which you explore the universe as a starship captain (sure to appeal to gamers who have longed for a new game to replace their aging copies of Ambrosia’s incomparable Escape Velocity series).
You can customize your ship, interact with alien races and engage in melees with other ships. The universe is generated randomly each time you place, so it is, as the name implies, infinite space to explore. Your goal is to acquire new and interesting components, either through trade or hostile encounters and plundering. The game combines turn-based strategy with real-time combat.
What’s more, Weird Worlds promises a lot of flexibility for customizers and mod-makers — users are encouraged to create their own conversions and add-ons.
