In addition to releasing USB and FireWire drivers for Intel-based Macs, M-Audio on Monday announced they are now shipping Sputnik, the company’s large-diaphragm studio tube condenser microphone.
M-Audio said its design team worked closely with LA-based engineers to get the best sound quality possible. The mics circuitry is designed around a military-grade 6205M vacuum tube that operates at high voltages, allowing for greater dynamic ranges.
The Sputnik mic also uses an evaporated 24-karat gold process to coat it for conductivity — this says M-Audio yields a more uniform result that delivers higher precision. The mic has a lollipop design with a frequency response of 20Hz – 20kHz ±1.5dB.
The Sputnik mic is available from M-Audio for $699.95
