FirmTek LLC has announced its SeriTek/2SM2-E, a Serial ATA (SATA) ExpressCard host adapter. The device enables Apple’s MacBook Pro laptops to work with external SATA disk drives. Coming the third calendar quarter of 2006, it will cost $119.95.
The card features transfer rates up to 3 gigabits per second per port — suitable for applications involving HD video and other demanding content, according to FirmTek.
In related news, FirmTek has also announced a two-port SATA PCI Express adapter compatible with dual-processor Power Mac G5 systems. The SeriTek/2SE2-E is also coming in the third calendar quarter of 2006 and will cost $99.95.
The card works only in Power Mac G5s that use the PCI Express (PCIe) expansion interface — it will not work in older PCI-X or PCI slots found on earlier Power Mac G5s and Power Mac G4s. The SeriTek/2SE2-E features two external SATA II ports that can work with either individual drives or RAID arrays.
