Apple is among several vendors to announce support this week for Canon’s XL H1, a $8,999 compact High Definition (HD) video camera aimed at the broadcast and filmmaking markets.
Originally announced last September, the Canon XL H1 HD camcorder features uncompressed HD-SDI (SMPTE 292M) output, genlock sync and SMPTE time code support. It’s equipped with three 1440 x 1080 1/3-inch CCDs and a 20x zoom lens. You can generate frame rates of 60i, 30F and 24F, and use built-in digital still cameras as well.
Apple vice president of Applications Product Marketing Rob Schoeben said, “Canon’s feature-rich XL H1 HD Camcorder works seamlessly with Final Cut Studio today and future 24F support will provide filmmakers with an even more versatile workflow.”
Other companies announcing formal support for the XL H1 include Adobe, Focus Enhancements, Canopus and others.
