In conjunction with its Interplay asset management announcement at the National Association of Broadcasters in Las Vegas, Nevada, Avid introduced the new
family for Mac and PC. Media Composer is now a software-only application that can connect directly to Avid’s Interplay.
Using Interplay, Avid said that users could perform the time consuming tasks in the background, while monitoring changes to project assets by other team members.
Media Composer also offers Mac customers real-time HD, SD and DV performance, the company said.
The Mac version of Media Composer now includes format support for DVCPRO HD, HDV, and Avid DNxHD resolutions of 145 Mb, 220 Mb, and 10-bit 220 Mb data rates, enabling the image quality of uncompressed HD at standard-definition data rates. Media Composer also adds real-time HD multicam, allowing simultaneous playback of all multicam views for on-the-fly editing in real-time.
The Media Composer family starts at $4,995 for the software-only product. All products in the Media Composer family are expected to ship in Q2 2006.
