SoundTech describes its new LightSnake USB as a “sound card in a cable.” It’s an instrument-to-computer cable that features its own embedded analog to digital converter and signal booster. It costs $69.99 and is coming in May.
The LightSnake features a 1/4-inch tip on one end and a USB interface on the other. It can be connected to a guitar or other musical instrument with 1/4-inch jack, and it enables musical instruments to be recorded directly on a Mac or PC, using GarageBand or other music-making software.
The cable measures 10 feet long and includes a 1/4-inch to mini adapter and 1/4-inch male to dual 1/4-inch female splitter. It’s USB 2.0-compliant and compatible with Mac OS X, Mac OS 9 and various flavors of Windows without requiring the use of an additional driver, according to SoundTech.
SoundTech’s Web site had not been updated with a Web page for the LightSnake USB as Macworld posted this article.
