The third annual MacGathering returns to Southern California later this month, and among the featured activities will be workshops for musicians of all levels, from amateur to professional.
Industry vet Jerry Christie and other music pros will impart some practical knowledge for musicians at the event — more than just “fixing it in the mix,” he said — like knowing where to place your microphone and other techniques for getting the best possible recording. Christie has recorded artists ranging from Chick Corea to Justin Timberlake, and teaches at the Musician’s Institute and the Los Angeles Recording School.
The audio seminars also include a class on mastering — BIAS’s Gabe Khofri will lead a session on creation a Red-Book CD master. And the Podcasting 101 seminar will show people how to distribute their music and audio themselves.
More information about this year’s event, which takes place in North Hollywood on May 19 and 20, 2006, is available from the Web site. Registration ranges from $7 to $129 depending on when and what you sign up for.
