Game publisher THQ on Thursday announced the lineup of new games it’ll be showing off at next week’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles. Among them is a title for the Mac based on Disney/Pixar’s forthcoming movie Cars.
Disney/Pixar’s Cars is the next animated movie from the creators of Finding Nemo, The Incredibles and other hit films. Pixar Animation Studios, acquired by Disney earlier this year, is Apple CEO Steve Jobs’ other company.
The movie tells the story of Lightning McQueen, a rookie race car that crashes into Radiator Springs and is sentenced to community service. He develops a bond with the local inhabitants, even if his work ethic leaves something to be desired. The computer-animated movie features the vocal talents of Owen Wilson, George Carlin, Michael Keaton, Bonnie Hunt and many others. It debuts in theatres on June 9, 2006.
THQ has produced video games for multiple platforms based on the last few Pixar releases. They offered up Macintosh versions of both Finding Nemo and The Incredibles, and late last year published a sequel to their The Incredibles game called The Incredibles: Rise of the Underminer.
THQ continues its efforts with Cars: The Video Game. The game lets players play as 10 different characters in the movie, with 30 races and mini-games to choose from. THQ said the game has immersive recreations of environments from the movie. It’s expected to ship in the fall for multiple systems, including consoles, Mac and PC.
