Kano Technologies on Wednesday launched its X-SPAND IP series, a line of iSCSI-based network storage appliances for the small and midsize business market. X-SPAND IP systems start at $5,999.
iSCSI is a data transfer standard that links storage devices over a network, carrying SCSI commands over IP networks. The X-SPAND IP system provides over 860 MB/se bandwidth and can manage up to 12 terabytes (TB) of RAID storage capacity using fast Ethernet rather than Fibre Channel.
X-SPAND IP systems use SATA II drive mechanisms that are housed in a rackmount device that measures 3U. Base models start with four disk drives, expandable to 16. The systems feature four or eight Gigabit Ethernet ports and an optional 10Gb Ethernet connection. The systems also feature redundant, hot-swappable power supplies. They’re compatible with Mac OS X, Windows and Linux operating systems.
