FirmTek LLC has announced it is shipping its SeriTek/1SM2 PC card adapter and SeriTek/2EN2 dual bay enclosure for the Apple PowerBook. The PC card lets PowerBook users add external Serial ATA (SATA) capabilities to their systems. The card and enclosure are available as a bundle for $279.95; the card will be available separately in early june for $89.95, and the enclosure is available now for $199.95.
The SeriTek/1SM2 can support two 3.5-inch SATA hard disk drives, and supports software-based RAID or JBOD (Just a Bunch of Disks) capabilities. Disk activity LEDs show you when data is being transferred. It works with any 32-bit CardBus II slot (standard equipment on 15-inch and 17-inch PowerBook G4 systems. It also works with Windows and Linux.
The SeriTek/2EN2 is a dual-bay external SATA enclosure, featuring hot-swappable drive bays that can lock. Power and activity LEDs show you drive activity, and the trays are removable (you can buy spares if you need them). A built-in fan cools the drives and features three user-selectable speeds. The drive uses an external power adapter, and ships with mounting screws (for the drive mechanisms), two trays, rubber feet, a shielded external SATA cable, keys and software.
