Are you a footie fan but find the Championship Manager series a bit too cerebral? Phelios is offering a new sports game for the Mac that’s a return to the top-down perspective arcade games that were so prevalent in the 1980s: Kickin’ Soccer, a $9.95 game that’s available as a Universal Binary, too.
Kickin’ Soccer features one and two-player game modes, including an “arcade” mode in which you can play one match at a time, and a “cup” mode that lets you play one country’s team (from a roster of 16), each with specific skills, trying to win the World Cup. The two-player mode lets you go head to head with another opponent on the same keyboard.
You can dribble, slide, pass and shoot using simple mechanics (the keyboard’s arrow keys, z and x). The game features windowed and full-screen modes, and includes an original soundtrack. A playable demo is available for download — pay the registration fee to unlock the Cup mode and extra countries.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.3.9 or later.
