Other World Computing has announced the availability of 1GB and 2GB memory upgrades for MacBook and MacBook Pro systems, as well as Mercury-AL FireWire 800 RAID systems in capacities up to 750GB.
OWC sells SO-DIMM memory upgrade kits for MacBooks and MacBook Pros priced at $99 for 1GB and 2GB for $225. The SO-DIMMs use DDR2 667MHz memory, and the kits are sold in matched pairs of 512MB or 1GB — Apple recommends matching pairs for maximum performance. Both kits are user-installable.
Additionally, OWC has expanded its line of Mercury Elite storage systems with the new Mercury Elite-AL 800 Pro RAID-1 750GB system, for $1,219. The external hard disk drive uses FireWire 400 and FireWire 800 to attach to the Mac; the chassis houses two individual 750GB drive mechanisms that are mirrored together. If one fails, the other keeps working. The drives operate at a rotational speed of 7,200 RPM and feature a 32MB data buffer.
Included with the drive is EMC Retrospect backup software, Intech Hard Disk Speedtools, SoftRAID and cables. The Elite-AL Pro RAID-1 mirror systems are preconfigured for Mac OS X v10.2.x or later.
OWC also sells 250GB, 320GB, 400GB and 500GB RAID systems from $399.99 to $829.99 depending on capacity.
