A 25 year-old Dutch gamer says that American military intelligence officials have misinterpreted his video as a militant Muslim recruiting tool — something he says couldn’t be further from the truth.
The 25 year-old Dutch gamer, Samir, created an 11-minute video that depicts a man in Arab head-dress combating U.S. invaders. The video was shown this month to the U.S. Congressional Committee as evidence to show examples of how Muslim youth are recruited by militants.
Samir, however, was surprised that his video was shown to Congress as his production was done just out of fun.
In an interview with Reuters, Samir said the video wasn’t supposed to be political and that “it has nothing to do with recruiting people or training people.” Rather, Samir posted his work on a Battlefield 2 forum to solicit feedback on his production skills.
“Government agencies should do more research before coming to conclusions,” says Samir, “The movie wasn’t what they presented it to be.”
