Bare Bones has released an AppleScript that may be of major importance to some Web developers who depend on their text and HTML editor BBEdit. The script assists with the migration away from the use of the EMBED tag to deliver QuickTime content.
The script has been created as a response to a recent settlement between Microsoft and Eolas Technology. Under the terms of their agreement, Microsoft will no longer support the EMBED HTML tag in updated versions of its Internet Explorer 6 Web browser and future versions. More details about what this means have been posted to Apple’s Web site.
HTML code that currently uses EMBED will need to be modified when delivering QuickTime content to the Web, for Windows users who rely on Internet Explorer.
The replacement script provided by Barebones automates the implementation of JavaScript that Apple recommends using in place of EMBED if Web developers use QuickTime-based media they want to dynamically load and display. It’s free to all registered BBEdit users.
