Boinx Software on Thursday released iStopMotion v1.10, an updated version of their stop motion animation software for Mac OS X. A free update for registered users, this revision adds support for the Apple Remote. The full version costs $39.95.
iStopMotion provides a Mac equipped with a DV camera, iSight or compatible device with the ability to record stop motion photography or time lapse photography. Stop motion is an animation tool that’s been used for decades in cinema and television; examples include the popular 2005 movie release Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. Time lapse photography can come in handy recording slow processes such as a plant moving toward light, the passage of time and more — it’s a good educational tool.
This new release of iStopMotion supports the wireless Apple Remote that is included with the latest Macs that come with Front Row installed. Pressing the remote’s Menu button captures a frame; the Play button replays and pauses the movie; and Left and Right let you navigate back and forth. You can also hold the Left and Right buttons to jump to the beginning and end.
What’s more, users of the $349 “HR” version — a high-res variation aimed at professionals — can now capture more than four frames at a time using the number keys on the keypad, up to 1,000.
System requirements for iStopMotion call for Mac OS X v10.3 or later, QuickTime 6.4 or later, graphics card with OpenGL support and a supported camera.
