Rake In Grass — makers of the side scrolling action game Jets ‘n’ Guns — has released their second Macintosh game: Styrateg. As you might guess from the name, it’s a turn-based strategy game, but one with strong role playing game (RPG) tendencies.
A medieval world filled with mythical beasts and monsters is your backdrop, as you find yourself in the role of a hero who has come to save the wise king’s land from legions of unearthly adversaries bent on spreading plague and disease across the kingdom.
Your travels take you through more than 60 quests through forests, deserts and frozen wastelands as you look for clues to solve the mystery. You can choose from different character classes, with specialized skills and spells, and you’ll come across “heaps of magical items” as you fight more than three dozen different kinds of enemies.
Styrateg requires Mac OS X v10.2 or later and a 3D graphics card; the game is a PowerPC-compatible binary, but Rake In Grass indicates that an Intel Mac version in on the way. A downloadable demo version in on the way; the game costs $19.95 to register.
