Mac security utility developer
on Tuesday announced the release of Internet Security Barrier X4 Antispam Edition and ContentBarrier X4. Among the new features of these new versions is native support for Intel-based Macs.
Internet Security Barrier Antispam Edition is a suite that combines three other Intego products together for $89.95 — NetBarrier X4, VirusBarrier X4 and Personal Antispam X4.
NetBarrier is an advanced firewall protection system for Mac OS X that includes anti-hacker safeguards, customizable security options, stop lists, trusted groups and detailed logs and alerts. It also includes network management functions like port monitoring and “whois” lookup.
VirusBarrier protects against virus incursions, and also helps prevent Microsoft Word and Excel macro viruses. It can detect and remove viruses from infected files and applications.
Personal Antispam fights unsolicited commercial e-mail (spam) and phishing e-mails. It learns from the e-mail you send and receive and filters spam and phishing e-mails out from good e-mails.
New features in this new suite version’s release include Dashboard widgets for Tiger, improved user interfaces, Intego’s NetUpdate program which can install automatic updates, and more. The suite uses a single serial number and installer for all three programs.
Internet Security Barrier X4 is a free update for X3 owners who b ought it on or after April 20, 2006.
In related news, Intego has also released ContentBarrier X4, a new version of their parental control software for Mac OS X. Like Internet Security Barrier X4, it is Intel-compatible, and costs $59.95.
ContentBarrier X4 creates “a protective wall around a Mac,” according to the developers, preventing kids from loading adult Web sites, sites with subjects not fit for children and even blocking instant messaging when predatory language is used.
Parents can define categories for what kind of content they don’t want to see. They can set schedules for when their kids’ computers can access the Internet; set time limits; create different profiles corresponding to the users’ age and maturity; even which applications can be used — such as newsgroups, peer-to-peer software, e-mail, chat clients and the Web. Parents can also be notified by e-mail automatically when certain events occur.
In addition to Universal Binary support for Intel and PowerPC-based Macs, ContentBarrier X4 includes Dashboard widgets and NetUpdate.
ContentBarrier X users who purchased the software on or after April 20, 2006 can get a free upgrade.
