FirmTek on Thursday announced that it is shipping its SeriTek/2SM2-E ExpressCard adapter. The device enables MacBook Pro systems, which use the ExpressCard expansion interface, to connect to external Serial ATA (SATA) hard drives. The adapter costs $119.95.
SATA is a fast peripheral connectivity standard that uses a thin cable. It’s been popular with digital video professionals and others who demand high performance, and has been the internal connectivity standard on Macs since the introduction of the Power Mac G5.
With the new SeriTek card, video pros and others working on MacBook Pros (and Windows PCs equipped with ExpressCard interfaces) can use external SATA systems for storage and editing work. FirmTek is offering special bundle deals with hot-swappable drive enclosures.
