Intego on Friday announced the release of ChatBarrier X4, a major new version of their iChat encryption software for Mac OS X. Using ChatBarrier on both ends, iChat users can make sure their messages aren’t being eavesdropped on. ChatBarrier costs $39.95; that price includes a second free license. ChatBarrier X4 is a free upgrade for X3 users.
ChatBarrier provides real-time encryption of instant messages sent using the iChat software. It can use AES or Blowfish encryption technology, and does use a message log or other content that might be exploitable to a hacker.
New to this release is support for audio chats and file transfers. It’s also fully compatible with Intel and PowerPC-based Macs, and ships with Dashboard widgets and NetUpdate, which lets you check for and download updates to the software and its filters online.
