Storage maker LaCie announced Thursday that it will bundle a PCI Express (PCIe) SATA II interface card with its “Two Big” external RAID storage systems. The new bundles start at $449.
The PCIe card bundled with the LaCie RAID systems enables newer Power Mac G5s to work with the drives — the card has two external SATA (eSATA) ports. The company also produces bundles with four-port PCI-X cards (for older Power Mac G5s) starting at $469.
LaCie claims the Two Big drives achieve maximum throughput of 110MB/s in Fast mode (RAID Level 0). Drives can be hot-swapped. A spare drive is also available for purchase.
Two Big drives — which feature two hard disk drive mechanism in a single chassis — come preconfigured for RAID Level 0 operation.
