Opera Software on Tuesday announced the release of Opera 9, a new version of their Web browser, available for Mac OS X, Windows, Linux and other operating systems.
Opera 9 incorporates support for BitTorrent, the increasingly popular file distribution software — clicking a torrent link will immediately start a download. You can also add the search engines of your preference, block specific content, see thumbnail previews of tabbed pages, edit preferences for specific sites, run small Web applications (which Opera calls Widgets), and more.
Specific to the Mac, Opera 9 has been released as a Universal Binary that supports PowerPC and Intel-based Macs natively. Additionally, Opera 90 supports full screen integration when used in tandem with the Apple Remote.
Opera is a free download. The company sells a “premium support” package that costs $29 annually.
