UGS on Wednesday announced plans to support Mac OS X with NX, its lifecycle management software.
NX is a class of software called Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software; it’s used by industrial manufacturing companies to document and support the complete lifecycle of their products. The software combines Computer Aided Design, Manufacturing and Engineering (CAD/CAM/CAE) capabilities to assist companies in product design, manufacturing and simulation.
NX already supports Windows and Unix operating systems. Today’s announcement adds Mac OS X support to the mix, at least for PowerPC-based Macs. UGS has an “Early Adopter” program that is providing a limited edition version of NX to UGS clients — companies are encouraged to call (800) 498.5351 for details. UGS said it will add Intel Mac support in a future product release, and also plans to make “Teamcenter Engineering Integration” for NX available on Mac OS X in 2007.
