Smith Micro Software has announced the release of Internet Cleanup 4.0 for Mac, a new version of the security software for the Mac. The first release to feature Universal Binary support for Intel and PowerPC-based Macs, Internet Cleanup 4.0 includes various other enhancements. It costs $29.99; upgrades from earlier releases costs $14.99.
Internet Cleanup provides users with privacy protection measures to keep their personal information from being compromised over the Internet. It can help manage instant messenger chat logs, blocks Flash ads and more.
A new Personal Info Protector securely stores account numbers, passwords and other sensitive information. Flash ad blocking is new; NetBlockade can selectively block ads that use Flash. SpyAlert scans for surveillance spyware and removes it if found.
MailCleaner can zap unwanted e-mail attachments, and now includes “Smart Rules” to search for criteria you tell it about. MailCleaner also can segregate Apple Mail attachments by moving them to selected folders. You can selectively edit history lists; block Web-based info like cookies, adds and pop-ups, “shred” files securely using SecureDelete and more.
Internet Cleanup 4.0 requires Mac OS X v10.4 “Tiger.” A free trial version is available.
