Acertant Technologies has announced the release of Versomatic 1.0, a new electronic document revision protection system. While this initial release is Windows-compatible only, Acertant said it will release a Mac version in August, and it’ll be a Universal Binary. Versomatic costs $49.99.
Versomatic monitors the documents on your computer, and before files are changed, deleted or overwritten, it archives the original. You can retrieve earlier versions by selecting them to reveal a pop-up menu which shows you the file’s saved revisions. The archive process is automatic and transparent, according to the developer.
Versomatic works with any kind of file — word processor, spreadsheet, graphics and so on. The software can work alongside a backup system. Versomatic’s capabilities come in especially handy for organizations that need to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley and HIPPA, or where it’s necessary to track authorship.
