TransMedia on Wednesday announced plans to launch tomorrow a new version of Glide Effortless, their software and service that enables you to share digital content like photos, music, videos and other kinds of documents online — with other users, giving you control using a cell phone as well.
Using client software installed on a Mac or PC, Glide Effortless lets you upload any kinds of documents you want to an online repository. You can then grant other users access to select files or directories via the online service. Glide Effortless can transcode documents to different formats. You can also remotely view and manipulate content using select cell phones.
New to the forthcoming 1.3 update is calendar synchronization. On the Mac, iCal is supported. Glide Calendar will import and sync without “any manual processes,” according to Transmedia. Glide Calendars can also be exported to Microsoft Outlook, iCal, CSV and XML formats.
Glide Write is a new browser-based word processor that’s been integrated into Glide Effortless. You can use Glide Write to create multimedia documents with streaming video, audio, photos and even other documents you’ve synced using your Glide Effortless account directly within. You can then share your documents with participants using e-mail, text, audipo or video chats.
Glide already transcodes shared documents to different formats; the transcoding engine is used here as well. Glide Write can import and edit MS Word, text, HTML and RTF. You can export to Word, PDF, HTML, RTF and ZIP formats. OpenOffice import and export support is coming in July.
