Lismore Software Systems on Tuesday announced the release of Guest PC, its PC emulation software for Mac OS X. The new version, Guest PC 1.9.5, is a free update for registered users. Guest PC costs $69.99.
Guest PC is a PC emulator for users of PowerPC based Macs who want to run Windows. It’s offered as an alternative to Microsoft’s Virtual PC software, and is less expensive since it’s not bundled with Windows itself. It was developed by the creators of Blue Label PowerEmulator, an older emulator for “Classic” Mac OS.
Guest PC 1.9.5 has added a “native Windows video driver” to support high resolutions, including widescreen support. Also new in this release are bug fixes for network adapters and correction of some FPU emulation errors. Stability and compatibility has also been improved.
Guest PC is not yet native for Intel Macs, which can run Windows natively anyway, using either Boot Camp or Parallels Desktop. The $69.99 price includes a “family license” which allows the software to be installed “on all computers in your family.”
